We have another courageous adrenaline junkie for you this week. Dean Dunbar, born in Edinburgh, suffers from a rare condition called rod and cone dystrophy which has affectively resulted in Dean losing his eyesight.
He hasn’t let this hold him back though and he caught the adrenalin bug 2 years after the condition took away his eyesight completely, partaking in a skydive for the first time in his life. Speaking to the Daily Record, Dean speaks of how he got hooked on extreme sports,
“I can’t describe the feeling I got from the experience.
“They say that drug addicts keep taking drugs so they can get the same feeling of their first high – and I feel exactly the same about the skydiving.
“By the time my feet touched the ground, I was addicted to the buzz. Now I’m constantly trying to find bigger and better extreme sports.
Dean has no plans to hang up his pulse-raising boots just yet either, with plans to swim the English channel for his chosen Scottish charity.
To read more about Dean and his extreme sports experiences, here is his interview with The Daily Record

Hero, Barry West, has turned to extreme sports in the most extreme, adverse circumstances.
35 year old Barry was paralysed from the neck down after a horror car crash, but he hasn’t let that curtail his need for an adrenalin rush. Despite the limitations of being confined to a wheelchair, Barry has taken up extreme sports such as Skydiving, Scuba diving and paragliding as well as scaling Mount Snowdon an incredible 4 times!
Rightly so, Barry has also been selected as one of the torchbearers for this year’s Olympics for his local town.
We say hats off to Barry, and the great sense of adventure that he’s showing!

Something caught my eye this week when checking out the sports involved in the Paralympics this summer. That eye-catcher was Paralympic Rugby- also known as ‘MurderBall’ and there’s a reason for that! This fast paced, end to end thriller of a specticle requires teams of 4 wheelchair-bound athletes to try and score a goal at the opposing end within 40 seconds. Anything goes here, bar physical contact, which results in an intense and often dramatic sport. Check out the basics here:
