Excitement is brewing in the Ansell’s camp as we literally write this blog as the 22nd Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony is taking place at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi.
Many of the participating sports started their qualification rounds yesterday with Britain’s Jamie Nicholls automatically qualifying for the final of the Snowboard Slopestyle after a stunning performance in his second round, pushed him into 4th place.

Ireland beat Scotland, 28-6 and Wales secured a win against Italy 23-15.

Congratulations to Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka who won his first Grand Slam title with victory over an injury-hit Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final. Winning three of the four sets 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3, the 28-year-old is only the second Swiss man to win a Grand Slam singles title after 17-time champion Roger Federer. An unexpected win and clearly a player we will be keeping a close eye on this year and particularly at this year’s Wimbledon.
As for the Brits’ men’s players on court, the Open has left Murray, who is still recovering from a back operation, drop ranking to the world’s number six after losing to Federer in the quarter finals. Federer himself now drops to eighth place.
