This morning saw our men’s British cycling pursuit team beat the Australians for the first time since the last Olympics, producing a thrilling ride at the World Championships in The Oz capital, Melbourne.
The importance of the ride can not be overlooked, beating their biggest rivals on their home turf will provide the British team with a great deal of belief ahead of London 2012, as well as dealing a telling blow to the Australian’s Olympic hopes.
The British quartet of Ed Clancy, Peter Kennaugh, Steven Burke and Geraint Thomas did the job around the Hisense track to win in 3 minutes 53.295 seconds, breaking the Beamonesque world record they set when winning the Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
In our eyes track cycling is an extreme event, the strain the riders are put under and the effort they produce is second to none. There are also a few tasty crashes involved too!
